Axis Bank is planning to increase its campus hiring to around 12,500 employees in FY2026–27, up from approximately 11,500–11,600 in the previous financial year, as the bank continues to reshape its workforce around changing business requirements and increasing adoption of artificial intelligence.
According to Business Standard, the bank hired more than 31,000 employees during FY2025–26, even as its overall workforce declined by more than 3,000. The change reflects a broader shift in how roles are being structured, with technology and AI reducing the need for some routine transaction-processing activities while creating demand in other areas.
Axis Bank’s workforce strategy includes redeploying employees and placing greater emphasis on customer-facing and relationship-oriented roles. Internal mobility and reskilling are also becoming increasingly important as technology changes the nature of work across financial services.
The development highlights how AI adoption is influencing workforce planning in the banking industry. Rather than being limited to automation of individual processes, AI is increasingly becoming part of broader decisions around talent, skills and organizational structure.
For financial institutions, the shift points toward a combination of technology adoption and workforce development as banks prepare employees for changing responsibilities.
